A Company 78th Signal Guidon.... A mystery for now....
« on: January 22, 2020, 09:07:36 AM »
Here is a recent pickup for me..

This is a Signal Corps Guidon and based on the makers tag the guidon was made in 1959..

A very quick search for the 78th Signal Battalion reveals that it was activated in 1992 but can trace history to WW2.

I have not been able to find any WW2 history for the unit under a Battalion, so Perhaps this guidon belongs to a Signal Company?

There was a 78th Signal Company that was part of the 78th Division in WW2 and later but I can't find any further information about the unit..

Crossed semaphore flags are not what we see today with the multicolor design, indicating that this guidon was used prior to the changes to the Guidons that are currently used with the colored semaphore flags.

The material that the lettering and numbers and symbols is made of is a felt type material..

Maybe someone has more info to share..
