Wrapping up a huge museum clean out
« on: September 12, 2019, 11:34:17 PM »
So I have spent a couple of days a month for the last year cleaning out a very old museum near Detroit. As I wrap it up I thought I would share a few details and a few highlights. We went in to sort their military collection which consisted of thousands of items on the 3rd floor of a non climate controlled building. We sorted items based on three criteria, where they from that city, were they from elsewhere, or was the donation unknown? Most of what was from elsewhere or unknown was then given to my museum, again, thousands of individual items.
At my museum we try to research the items and if possible save the story of the vet. As in most museums, we are limited in space and resources so we cannot keep it all, even when researched. Here are a few of the highlights.    Scott

So there are literally hundreds of uniforms and items I just don't have time to photograph. Here are some that have been cataloged into our collection to give you an idea. The racks you see are about 30 feet long and one above the other. I also should have mentioned that I am only done with the 3D artifacts, I will have to go back soon to pick up all of the associated ephemera for these collections. I also picked up 2 Maxim MG 08/15s on the last trip and hope to go back and receive more guns as they become available. Overall a year well spent I think!   Scott

Scott,

The best word I can use to describe is amazing!  Glad these folks contacted you and happy that they will have a new and thoughtful caretaker.
