New stuff for the new year...
« on: March 05, 2019, 12:58:38 PM »
nothing earth shattering but aome nice additions that may end up in my trade pile. The best of show, so to speak is the ODB/greenback 36th ID and the greenback 83rd (a variation which I didn't have in my collection). The 1st Cav is interesting, in that the horsehead is different. You can tell more from the back, as the black embroidery doesn't show the detail as well.

Hi DS

1st Cav is a standard WWII 1942 SSI.

What you are highlighting is an embroidery stitch based on the tape that was used to produce the SSI.

The Tape was made based off the embroiderers Cartoon. The schiffli process and stitcher, could make many slight changes to the original OCMC design and hence you get variations from the different companies that produced SSI during the war.

The fully embroidered schiffli patches came into practice after testing c 1942. Pre WWII are melton wool applique made.
