A photo tour of my museum
« on: August 16, 2018, 01:53:15 PM »
As we approach November 11th, I thought I would share some pictures of the Michigan Military Heritage Museum. We opened just under two years ago and have come a long way. As we get ready to celebrate our second year in November, we will also begin a huge transition.
We will transform our front gallery from its current state as a 100th anniversary of WWI exhibit to the 75th anniversary of WWII, in time for the major US events of 1944-45. Doing this means re-working several other exhibits as well. We will concurrently expand our Cold War room and do some detailed exhibits on Grenada, Panama, Bosnia/Kosovo etc... So, here is a bit of a photo tour of what the museum looks like now. Hope you all enjoy it and please feel free to send pointers!   Scott

First up the entrance and WWI gallery that will change to WWII. Here we have an exhibit to Michigan's ambulance men in WWI and then the uniforms of 12 countries in both enlisted and junior officers. We also are currently the exhibitors of artist Sabin Howard's WWI Centennial Maquette. This is a 1/6 replica of what will be going into Pershing Park in D.C. soon. We were honored to be the first public exhibitor of this work and its pretty cool!
Uniforms shown represent France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Russia, Poland, the Czech Legion, Austria-Hungary, New Zealand, Canada, U.K., and of course the U.S.  Scott.

Korea and Vietnam currently share a room but our Vietnam collection is growing and hopefully we will be able to feature it in our front gallery while we are still within the 50th anniversary.    Scott

We are currently transitioning this room from the WWII Home Front to the Cold War. So, our mock guard shack and MP for the P.O.W. Camp that used to be here in WWII and a newer exhibit on the USAF during the Cold War period. It includes an M1 missile crewman and special missions pilot who flew President's Nixon, Johnson and Kennedy among other dignitaries.   Scott

Our WWII Battle of the Bulge exhibit. It features men from the German army, the 84th Division, 10th Armored and the 101st Airborne. Our 84th story begins in November of 44 hence the banner dates not being reflective of the official battle dates.   Scott
