Robin Ray 11-11-17
« on: November 16, 2017, 10:09:13 AM »
Gentlemen of the forum...it is my sad duty to inform you of the passing of the forum's founder...Robin Ray, who left us on Saturday, Nov 11th. Those of you who might have known Robin will be aware that he had been dogged by fragile health for some time now, but despite it all he maintained his sense of humour and a positive attitude to the end. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Teresa, and his son Ken.  Robin was dedicated collector...many of you will no doubt remember his contributions to the USMF? Although a serious collector, his irrepressible and good-humoured banter often got him into trouble with the powers-that-be on that forum and ultimately resulted in him establishing the AMF...a forum for like-minded collectors but without the restrictions of the former!

Please feel free to add your memories of Robin here, together with your condolences and thoughts and prayers for his wife and family.

I will add any other information which I might receive in due course.

Thank you,

Ian

Saddened to hear of the passing of a legacy in the collecting field.. I had the pleasure of talking to Robin on the phone for a few hours once, talking about the process to get NARA records. He set me in the right direction and I will forever be grateful for his willingness to pass his knowledge and expertise onto others..

May his family rest in the assurance that he is no longer in pain or suffering, he is looking down on us all smiling and we can look forward to seeing Robin again when we join up in Heaven.

May God Bless and keep Robin's wife and son comforted in knowing that Robin is in peace..

I spent the last week of Robin's life with him, his wife, son, and best friend of 50 years.
He was as always, good humored, fun and irreverent.
He loved the collecting community on this forum, made many friends, and often baffled those who didn't take the time understand or appreciate his wonderful sense of humor.
His contributions to the collecting world, his friends, family, and community, will not soon be forgotten.
It was a privilege to have known him, a treasure to have called him my friend, and a blessing to have spent his last days beside him.

Like Smitty, I too had a few great and lengthy phone conversations with Robin. Most centered around something funny that ultimately led to him getting into trouble at the USMF! Still, he was a true breath of fresh air and an asset to our community and this world. He will be missed greatly here and my sincere condolences to his family. RIP Robin, thanks for the memories... My sincere condolences to his family.  I can't help but smile a little though knowing Heaven is a little more humorous if not a little more colorful place now. RIP Robin.

My goodness, my thoughts are with his family.  I was just thinking of Robin this morning and wanted to write him a note to see how he was doing.  :(

Very sad news indeed and a pillar of the collecting community which cannot be replaced.

Was always a pleasure to speak to Robin. No amount of words can convey the passing of him.

A sense of humor, sharp eye and quick wit that often shown through in his postings and will be immensely missed.

An honor and pleasure to have known him and been considered a friend.

Sincere condolences to his family.
