M51 Skysweeper Crew at Camp Wellfleet, MA circa 1954

Latest addition to the Cold War Corner of the basement museum -- an M51 Skysweeper crew from the 548th AAA (75 mm gun) Battalion out of Loring AFB in Limestone, Maine, practicing at the Firing Range at Camp Wellfleet just down Route 6 here on Cape Cod.  The Skysweeper was the last AA gun used by the army, the M51's were replaced by Nike Missiles to protect the SAC base and its B36 Peacemaker bombers.  Camp Wellfleet is now part of the Cape Cod National Seashore, and remnants of the Radio Controlled Aerial Targets are still found in the woods surrounding the old camp.
