Thanks for letting me join!
« on: March 12, 2017, 09:32:26 AM »
Hi.  New guy here from the east coast.

I am 64 and a retired undertaker.  In a odd career twist, I am schooling to obtain an EMT certification.  Get you coming and going, as they say.
Always been a military history buff.  My great great Grandfather served in the Civil War in Snow's Battery, 1st Maryland Light Artillery (Union).  He was captured and sent to Andersonville.  I had three uncles serve in WW1, one losing a leg, and 2 uncles served during WW2.  One in the Marines on Iwo Jima, and the other, who enlisted in his 40's, was in the Army.  He sent what is now my collection, home to my Dad.  My dad was in the Army during the Korean War, where he fought the Battle of the North Sea, keeping RAF airfields in England safe from the Commie hordes.

I really like this site and hope to contribute.

John

Welcome to AMF John!
What an incredible military history your family has; you must be very proud of their service.
Andersonville...what a horror that was.
Best from Canada,
Roy

M1Ashooter,
Uncle Jim was also in the 4th.  23rd Marines.  A good friend of mine had an uncle killed there.  Also in the 4th.

Welcome from East Texas. Did your Grandfather enlist late in the war? My paternal Grandfather was drafted in 1944 at the age of 37. I am amazed that they took him but he did free up a younger recruit to go overseas.

I know he landed after the Normandy invasion and had a rear echelon position.  He died when I was real young and I have never seen his discharge to even know what outfit he was with.
