Re the crates...they were very substantial in themselves. No wonder ground crewmen used to make them into huts / shelters complete with stoves and bunks etc., out on the fringes of cold. windswept airfields!

This reminds me of how when I was a little girl making model airplanes I would think how neat it would be to shrink myself down to 1/72 and then I would be a real airplane mechanic!
