Good news from France!
« on: January 01, 2017, 09:20:40 AM »
For many years, a post-war Sherman variant has been on display at the Airborne Museum in Ste Mere Eglise. However, this is apparently set to change as an original 1943 version will soon repalce it.

As a caveat to the above, of course all M4 Sherman production ceased at the end of WW2 so therefore by definition the Sherman featured in the photo is in fact a WW2 production example. However....it's a 76mm armed M4A1 retro-fitted with HVSS suspension bogies...a late to post-war addition which was part of an upgrade program. No Shermans of this configuration ever fought in Normandy...hence the pressure to replace it with a more appropriate type.

Ian, interesting article, but sadly my knowledge of French is just as bad as my Chinese. :-\
