Ian, this one I'll definatley have to check out. My mother's youngest brother was KIA on Okinawa May 17th, 1945. He was in the 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th I.D., "The Old Bastards".
I remember my mom saying that her mother (my grandma) didn't want the insurance money upon his death, just wanted to have her son shipped home instead. I heard she was really heart broken, mother of seven, died when she was 59 years old in 1959.

Also waiting for more information on the Mighty Eighth movie which was supposed to be out at the end of this year or beginning of next?
I first heard it was part three of the Band of Brothers series and then became a stand alone movie based on the book Masters of the Air
Not heard anything for months about it despite seeing a pretty good trailer on YouTube

 Another trailer says that the Venice Film screening gave it a 10 minute standing ovation! Gibson generally makes great movies, and I am looking forward to this one as well as "Men of Courage" about the USS Indianapolis.   Scott

The Masters of the Air had series had some news not long back... seems they completed what they call the "bible" for the series and are now writing.  There was an estimation spelled out on the other (US) forum where they described the timetable of BOB and the Pacific, so this one is moving along at those speeds, and it's going to be 2018, if I remember.

I just saw this movie and in a word would call it "powerful".
The fact that it's based on a true story makes it very impactful.
It was very emotional for me.
