"Play the Game"
« on: August 12, 2016, 05:25:19 AM »
Lads-

It's been a whirlwind past few months to say the least - two months ago today, I was in Kuwait getting ready to head back to the States!  Since being back, I've completed a myriad of redeployment tasks, took some leave, went back to Fort Polk, packed up the house, said "so long" to the 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division and Fort Polk, and moved to Fort Benning, GA - "Home of the Infantry!"

On 30 AUG 2016, I will be in a Change of Responsibility ceremony at Kanell Field here at Benning, to become the Command Sergeant Major for the 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry - 198th Infantry Brigade, an Infantry Basic Training unit.  Can't tell you how excited I am for this assignment and to be back at Benning, where it all started for a young knucklehead from Boston during the summer of 1987.

1-50th Infantry's Battalion motto is "Play the Game" - here's a link to the unit's history
http://www.ichiban1.org/html/history.htm

If any of you are in the Fort Benning area, let me know

Cheers & see you on the high-ground!

Chris

No - I had a break in service from 1991 -1993 + this is a 30 month assignment; I'm at 26+ years on Active Duty, so we'll see

Congrats CSM! You are at my favorite place in the Army. Like you I did time at Polk as well, only in the 5th I.D. (Mech) 85-87. My advice to you is to get involved in the museum if you can and try to get in there upon retirement, its a first rate collection.   Scott.
Always looking for 32nd Division items and 13th Armored Division items. Please keep me in mind if you have any.

All of the Graduation Ceremonies are now on Inouye Field, directly adjacent to the National Infantry Museum (NIM)
http://nationalinfantrymuseum.org/graduations/

Inouye Field is named for the late Senator Daniel Inouye, MoH Recipient and WWII veteran of the 442d Regimental Combat Team in WWII.  Inouye Field, when it was first dedicated in 2009, contains soil from Yorktown, Antietam, Soissions, Normandy, Corregidor, Korea, Vietnam (LZ X-Ray), Iraq and Afghanistan - what better place for new Infantryman to complete their training!
