QAC Red & Yellow Group Chutes
« on: February 02, 2016, 12:15:56 PM »
Here are my examples of red & yellow group parachutes and harnesses.  It became a necessity to delineate the two by color so as not to mix them us in a hurry.  Essentially the red group has hooks on the chute pack and a D ring on the harness.  The yellow group is opposite and not interchangeable.  The yellow group harness was standardized because the risers were located in a more ergonomic position over the shoulders where as the red group came directly off the chest was found to be satisfactory but uncomfortable to the jumper often leading to a whiplash scenario.  Both chute packs contain their booklets with issue, repack and technical order information.  Enjoy.

As promised more photos.  First one is both the chute packs side by side for comparison.

First is the red group chute pack.  More properly designated AN 6513-1A.  The predecessor to the yellow group type A3.  It features the lobster clips on the reverse of the chute pack for harness attachment.  It is notable darker in the color for fabric used in pack construction.  This example has red group painted on front for quick pick.  Notably only one webbing handle on the pack.

Photos of the red group booklet.

I am very particular when looking for a parachute that it has its booklet with it.  This is the real written history of the parachute.  You will first notice on the cover that at the bottom of the cover of the booklet is the Serial No. this should match a stenciled number on the outside flaps of the chute pack.  When purchasing a chute ensure these numbers match.  The next pages should include repack data, when and where the chute was repacked and inspected.  Towards the back of the booklet you will find the technical compliance record, this is a list of the modifications made the the parachute over it's service life.

The yellow group packs proper designation is the A3 (for this chute pack) there was also the A4 & A5 which used the same quick attach chute system of D rings that would mount to a harness containing the lobster clips.  Made of a lighter in color OD material than the AN6513. This example has the yellow marking applied via a strip of yellow sewn in webbing. There are three carry handles off the sides and top of the pack of OD webbing.  Both chute packs use the same bungee system to open the chute.

Note last photo with corresponding numbers on the pack and data booklet.
