That's not untypical of auction houses Gary, online or otherwise. To them it's a guarantee that if you are the winning bidder for an item they will get their money. It's the same principle at my local auction house. When you attend an auction you have to register your CC details in order to get your bidding paddle. If you don't, you can't bid.
