A friends Soviet Collection Prepare to be awestruck!
« on: July 25, 2015, 10:49:42 PM »
This is the collection of a friend here in Michigan that specializes in the USSR in WWII. Enjoy as the pictures just don't capture the scope of it all.
First up, a few uniforms! This is one of two adjacent aisles in his collection room.  Scott.

Some of his U.S. collection before you round the corner to the Russian items.  Scott.

High power Soviet bling! This collection contains original uniforms of Rokossovski, Konev, Stalin and more. Sorry for the glare, but some are in alarmed glass cases.   Scott

Words can't describe what I'm thinking.  The story of how he obtained the items must be interesting.  How does one collected items from behind the Iron Curtain or did the collection start after the fall?

Soviet / Russian items of that era and quality just never show up in UK collecting circles. After the wall came down, cheap tin-plate Soviet badges became pretty common along with "fish-fur" ushankas (trappers' hats) but that's about it. Even now all that turns up is mostly modern era Eastern-bloc surplus stuff...nothing vintage.

He started after the fall and he has only visited Russia once. Except for the obvious value of the collection, he is not a wealthy man. I think that is what makes the collection so interesting.   Scott
