I was an Albanian Commando?
« on: June 03, 2015, 09:25:32 PM »
While serving in Iraq, I was tasked with a mission in the city of Mosul to work with a unit of Albanian Komando's. We hit it off quite well and overall it was an interesting experience. There were about 70 of them in the company and they were led by 2 Majors. One was the commander and the other was an English speaking liaison who worked almost exclusively with me (an NCO).
While not to the standard of US or British special forces units, they were quite competent and eager to take their fight to the enemy. It was their first opportunity as a democratic nation, to work with us. When I left to return to my unit, they made me an honorary komando and presented me with their SSI, national colors, hat badge,pt shirt (not shown) and the large Task Force Olympia theater made patch shown here. I also got a water bottle full of "rakki" which is a most potent alcoholic beverage not unlike everclear.   Scott.

Always looking for 32nd Division items and 13th Armored Division items. Please keep me in mind if you have any.

Nice story Scott. Albania is considered to be Europe's poorest and most under-developed country.
