Here is a variation of the commemorative medal for the allied entrance into Naples Italy on 01 October 1943.

There are several versions of this medal, both the pendant itself and the ribbon have variations based on available materials and based on design by the makers. These were produced locally by numerous Italian makers and whatever stock of colored ribbon they may have had was what was used. I have seen several different color type and combinations of ribbons used. It is also rumored that some of the same medal makers and insignia makers that made insignia for Mussolini made these medals for the advancing allied armies.

The front of the pendant shows a smoking Mt. Vesuvius in the background and Naples harbor in the foreground. Again in some variations, there is a boat in the harbor as well as the pier or dock extended further into the water.  The back of the pendant shows the date the allies entered Naples of October 1, 1943. There are also variations of the type set on the back of the pendant. These are fairly inexpensive and I know of at least 4 different variations of the pendant and several different ribbon colors.

I am currently seeking to find and purchase all the variations of this medal. It has special meaning to my family since my Grandparents came from Palermo, Sicily.

Smitty, as always you seem to be behind my sales. I just sold one that was without a ribbon and used condition. I did not know there was variations made. Will look forward to seeing what other ones come out.
