The B7 Parka for those cold nights on Kiska
« on: May 10, 2014, 11:17:33 PM »
I have always loved the early sheepskin jackets of the AAC & AAF.  Among my favorites is the B7 Parka, though not exclusively seen in Alaska it has solidified itself as a bit of an icon for the big wigs of the Alaskan front.  When you saw one of these jackets worn around you almost surely saluted who ever was wearing it.  Though its issue mate pants, the A6 flight pants, are rarely seen together in any photographs (in fact if you have one I would love to see it).  They were made buy Aero Leather and the contract lasted for only a year of production.

These were issued as flight gear but I am not certain how you could fit in, let alone move around in a plane wearing the parka.  And don't even think about putting a chute harness on with it.

My example is named to a Lionel "Lee" Boisclair but have not been able to dig up his history yet.  The jacket is a size 44 and in wonderful condition with no repairs or damage.  I find myself awfully tempted to wear it in the dead of winter up here in Anchorage.
Always on the lookout for USAAF flight gear and anything pertaining to the Aleutians Campaign.

Here are a few photos of the jackets in their time...  you might notice Mr. Gable in one of the photos but the last is surely my favorite.

Finally have my B7 in hand now !!  apart from a few marks and scuffs , it is in pretty good shape !!  Not as heavy an item as i expected  ???  in fact for its use it seems quite light !! :o

The A6 pants i acquired a couple or so years ago !   so glad i didnt move them on !

Just as i was taking the photos , the postman turned up with another piece to add to the Arctic set up !!   The type A14 Mukluks ! With thanks to Scarecrow for the Type A14's !
