Nice WWI Bavarian Helmet in today
« on: October 03, 2018, 11:56:32 PM »
Today we received this Pickelhaube from the family of WWI 85th Division Band Member Carl Braun. Braun and his Brother were in the 330th Field Artillery Band and never saw combat but did make over before the end of the war and served on occupation duty. The leather on this helmet is absolutely mint and beautiful, except that it appears that the stitching for the front visor and rear has just disintegrated... The rear is still attached because of the brass, but the front is gone. We are considering doing a repair as it is really a nice piece. The liner is near mint and while the chinstrap is worn brown, it is fully intact and adjustable. It also needs a national color cockade but those are easy to get. This came by way of a family member in Hawaii and arrived today! Scott
