Title: My M1 Does My Talking
Post by: M1Ashooter on December 16, 2018, 08:57:54 PM
Just received this M1 from the CMP. The receiver has a December 1944 serial number, the barrel is dated 12-44, the rear sight is a lock bar and the operating rod is an uncut rod.  I've never seen one in person.  The barrel gages a low round count so its possible the barrel and rear sights are original to the receiver.  The stock has the inspection stamp of the late Elmer Keith who was an inspector at the Ogden Utah Arsenal.  Mr Keith is one of the inventors of the 357 magnum pistol cartridge.  On top of this the letter of Authenticity from the CMP is dated December 7 2018.  I'm excited about this rifle.

Looks like a real beauty! Sometimes you can hit good with the CMP guns, still treasures out there and here is a great example. Scott

Well I'm even more excited about this rifle.  I detailed stripped it down and all the major group parts with the exception of the stock are in the serial number date range of Dec 44 to Jan 45.  The operating rod is even an uncut rod. This rifle appears to be almost factory orginal. This rifle is also the Christmas present to my 21 year old USCG Bosuns Mate 3rd Class.

Shoots pretty fair also.  Not bad for a 74 year old rifle, using 38 year old Greek surplus ammo and 61 year old eyes.

I think we need one more.
