Title: "Ardennes 1944. Hitler's Last Gamble" by Anthony Beevor
Post by: Tom E. Gunn on May 28, 2015, 10:28:15 AM
Anthony Beevor is arguably the finest current historian / author of books about the great campaigns of WW2. His "Stalingrad"... "Berlin..."  and "D-Day"...to name but three, are considered to be modern classics. I've read all of his books and would certainly agree with that!

His latest book on the Battle of the Bulge, as featured here, has just been published in hardback in the UK. Obviously, it will also be available in the USA at some point in the not too distant future...check your local Barnes & Noble, or a certain well-known online book supplier!

Being a hardback, it's "top dollar" as such new books always are 25 / $38...but of course the softback will cost considerably less when it becomes available in the months ahead.

I've only read the first few chapters, but it's typically well researched, crammed with details and eminently readable as all of his books are. I'm looking forward to really getting stuck into it in the week ahead!

Leigh...his "Berlin...the downfall, 1945" is probably the definitive account.

Chris,

Thank you for the kind and humbling words...

There are some very good books about the Battle of Berlin from the German perspective as well as the overall big picture...

Another excellent book is Tony Le Tissier's book "With our backs to Berlin".. First hand accounts from SS Soldiers, Wehrmacht, civilians in the City during the battle.. I would recommend this book as well if interested in the Battle For Berlin...
