E.S. 4th FG, Evader, POW - Pilot Grouping!
« on: April 04, 2015, 02:33:06 PM »
Just acquired this grouping.  I have been collecting nearly 40 years and this will end up being one of the center pieces of my collection.  These items belonged to Robert G. "Red" Patterson.  He was a member of 121 Eagle Squadron, transferred to the USAAF, 4th Fighter Group 335 Squadron.  Patterson was shot down in his P-47 over Assen Germany on 10/8/43.  He succesfully evaded for two months but was eventually captured and interned in Stalag Luft I, South Compound Barracks 7.  This grouping includes some very rare insignia, including an E.S. SSI, a British made bullion on silk 8th AF SSI, RAF full size and "mini" wings, Parachuting award badge, POW made lead wing the shield is marked "POW Stalag Luft I", unofficial "winged" boot Evader badge, his 1942 RAF Commemorative sterling badge presented to US personnell. upon their transfer to the USAAF,  by the British Gov't as a thank you for their service to the RAF, and an uber rare version of this badge in bullion with OD cloth center.  Also is his US insignia including a full size Luxemberg wing.  I am just very proud and honored to be the keeper of these historical items, until its time for me to pass them on to another. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Am i envious ??   You can bet your bottom dollar i am !!!!   Incredible group , and i am ,as im sure others are , consider
themselves fortunate to be able to see it !!

Many thanks Paul for letting us view such a great group !!!

I am very impressed!!
This is a wonderful group of insignia from a very unusual man. What a great research and display piece this makes. His medals would be a crowning touch, but this by itself is a super+ item for your collection.

Great ackuasitation!!  :D

Super grouping Paul, very impressive indeed. Eagle Squadron items are very rare in themselves, but to have an attributable group is great, hats off to you.

While nowhere near as impressive as your grouping, here is a shot of my small display of commonwealth wings etc.

Also, here is my display cabinet with all my brevet`s.
