WWII Sports Jacket - Burtonwood UK
« on: July 04, 2017, 09:19:26 PM »
Just picked this up last Sunday at the monthly militaria meet near here.  Sports team jacket, most likely baseball or softball team.  Burtonwood during WWII was the location of USAAF Base Air Depot 1 (BAD1).  Burtonwood was the largest airfield in Europe during WWII, with 18,000 personnel by 1944.  It was the largest aircraft repair and maintenance facility, serving both the 8th and 9th AF's.  Burtonwood was home to many types of station units including the 55th Field Hospital.  Which I assume fielded the "Medics" team.

Unfortunately a no go.  Most likely (as the majority of WWII clothing seems to be) a size 36-38.

Very cool jacket and something not often appreciated in the military collecting field.

Carl, perhaps you could find an old (modern) American high school or college varsity jacket in your size and then have it embroidered for a local USAAF base team? It would be a cool thing to wear to events and shows!  Scott
Always looking for 32nd Division items and 13th Armored Division items. Please keep me in mind if you have any.
