This is in hand now , and the temptation to open it is getting the better of me !!

Have done some research regarding the labels on the box .
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

SAAMA which is written on the original AF label
"After the end of the war, more and more AT-6, P-51, and B-29 aircraft were delivered to Kelly Field for maintenance and storage. Disposal and aircraft storage programs took up more and more of Kelly's time and space. Kelly's maintenance workers stopped repairing very heavy bombers and began supporting the occupational forces in Europe and Japan with air transportation, communications, and weather systems. In 1946, the San Antonio Air Technical Services Command became the San Antonio Air Materiel Area (SAAMA)"

The next label which is RAF is from the 2MU   (Maintenance unit)
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

No. 2 MU   RAF Broadheath between 9 April 1938 and 15 March 1957.
Sub site at Pulham between 9 April 1938 and 12 August 1940.
Sub site at Ridge Quarry, Corsham between 9 April 1938 and 31 December 1939.
Sub site at RAF Bridleway Gate between 10 January 1944 and 10 May 1946.
Sub site at Grange Quarry, Holywell between August 1939 and 15 March 1957.
RAF Sealand between 15 March 1959 and 30 June 1969.
Sub site at Ridge Quarry, Holywell between October 1959 and 30 June 1969.   Ammunition
Equipment Supply Depot

So by going with what i can find out about the info on labels , there is a fair to close association with the RAF and USAF at some point in the UK.So quite easily, these headphones could have been left over in a stores somewhere and thus how they ended up being inspected etc by the RAF.

Don't do it Carl!   HS-33 headset is just your basic USAAF headset.  Easy enough to find, but not still packed in its shipping box.  That's the rarer bit I think

Don't do it. Keep it as it is. Acquire an identical headset to display on top of the unopened box. I am just saying. James
