658th TD/Ampibious Tractor Bn Group
« on: February 07, 2017, 08:55:37 PM »
This is a named group that came in Monday from the deceased veterans neighbor. Sadly, I forgot to write the name down when I was doing the pictures... So, I will add it later. He was from Detroit and enlisted in 43. He was assigned to the 658th Tank Destroyer Battalion which was initially bound for Africa and Europe, but as the war in North Africa ended prior to embarkation, they were sent to California and re-designated as an amphibious tractor battalion, still the 658th. He served in New Britain, New Guinea, and did 10 landings in the Philippines. It is a wonderful group featuring many great items. His widow is still alive and I am going to reach out and try to get a picture to go with it. First up, his front seam, fixed bail M-1 with CAPAC liner, liner band, and painted on rank. Nothing too fancy but with his laundry number in it, its pretty awesome!

4 pocket jacket, trousers, shirt as well as leather belt. The lower pocket has the amphib ssi, tank brass, us brass, and overseas service stripes. There is also a green wool garrison cap, unfortunately no TD piped garrison.   Scott

What I really loved was that there are two hbt shirts in the group! The first has the TD ssi and rank, another example of ssi used on a combat shirt. It is heavily faded and worn while the other is quite vividly colored and nice. Its always great to get combat stuff in a grouping! His laundry number is in everything as well.  Scott.
