WW II US Flight Nurse Flight Suit
« on: January 03, 2017, 04:47:57 PM »
I started off 2017 on a good note.  I was able to acquire a VERY scarce flight nurse uniform grouping.  This is the Flight Nurses  "K-1 Suit Flying, Nurse, Light"  per the nomenclature tag.  It is a two piece flying suit. These are very difficult to come by and is complete with jacket, slacks, blouse, tie and cap.  Even the overseas cap is designated the K-1 and is different from normal WAC overseas caps.  Just thought I'd kick off the 2017 uniform acquisition list.

That's quite a haul. Uniforms of that type are as scarce as hen's teeth!

Smitty, Kohima, Ian and LB,
Thanks for all the kind words.  Again I am very lucky that fortune smiled on me once more and I was able to acquire this scarce set.  LB, I would love to obtain the flight gear but I think the elusive piece would be the B-17 Flight Jacket.  It along with the WASP B-16 are constructed exactly like the B-15 flight jackets but were issued in woman's sizes.  I'm still not sure why there were two designations for women (B-16 Wasp, B-17 Flight Nurse).  One would think a B-15 for Men and a B-16 for Women would have been sufficient.  I am again very fortunate to have a well used Id'd WASP B-16 but don't think I'll ever find a Nurse B-17.  And if I do it won't come cheap.  Thanks again guys.

You're right Carl, they also go under the "good luck finding those" category.  But never say never I suppose.

Great uniform ;)

I had no idea Converse made shoes for the military either. I just looked it up to learn more. Very interesting manufacturing history.

Carl,

No the Flight Nurse's flight pant's, like the B-17 jacket, had their own designation.  They were A-13's.  Again, like the B-17's very hard to find.
