Finally, a Bancroft Flighter
« on: September 25, 2016, 10:22:19 AM »
I've been after the creme de la creme of crusher caps for a long time and I finally got a Bancroft Flighter for a reasonable price. It's in great shape with only a small amount of cracking on the edge of the visor. The cloth is perfect with zero mothing. Not named but it now sits proudly in my display cabinet.

Am I correct to say it's the ones that have Patent Pending inside that are considered wartime examples?

Neil.

According to somthing I have just this minute read Neil "Patent Pending " apperently did not appear until February 1945 !! Yes I'm as shocked as you, as I thought ,like many that it was the other way around !
But none the less ,it's still a great looking "Flighter" and in dammed  good condition as well !!
It doesn't  worry me in the slightest what the patent says , because they are such cool looking caps !

Hi

I assumed patent pending would be earlier and then imagined patent numbers would then have been issued and then added!!
Odd if that is the case

Beautiful Flighter by the way. I'll post mine when she arrives. Like the headphones also

Here's a couple from my collection. The dark OD example is marked The Tailor Shop, Kelly Field.  Kelly Field was a USAAF airbase in Texas in WW2.

Just looking at all these great visors and was wondering if they all still had the front stiffer in ?? The example I have has a completely different shape to those shown ?
