I think we certainly have to explore new technologies at least in a bid to minimise soldiers exposure to potential IED's and ambush etc.  Load bearing equipment such as this with the added advantage of a hull mounted 50 cal. has to be an advantage in certain situations but I question its durability, manoeuvrability and endurance.  I think as time progresses and battlefield technologies move on you can still only achieve so much and we can never fully eliminate the human element, the soldier on the ground.

A Mule would be much cheaper, does not require fuel and will go anywhere, including high mountain trails.

The best part, if you get into trouble, you can eat the mule.

Thats a very good point, completely overlooked that!  Yep, screw technology.........the Mule is tried and tested and easier to chew than plastic and metal depending on age!!  ;D

Yep. Also, you can talk to a Mule and most people won't think you are crazy.

Another very valid point, you are a wise man K!  I'm now considering buying a Mule to talk to, I've heard they're good listeners!  ;D

Seems like the British had something like this called a Bren Carrier... While the initial concept is good, there appears to be no armor and a lot of moving parts that are susceptible to small arms fire.  Scott
Always looking for 32nd Division items and 13th Armored Division items. Please keep me in mind if you have any.

I think a Bren carrier would have been able to absorb more punishment!
