Little late to this party, but I can feel your frustrations about this dilemma.. Even here is the US the shipping and tracking is mind boggling. I purchased an item recently from a person in Dallas, Texas, which is in Central Texas. I live in Far West Texas, El Paso.. Normally this would be here in two days...

19 DAYS LATER  :o  :o  :o  :o It arrives.. The tracking on this package was crazy... From Dallas, it went to Florida, which then went to Chicago, which then went to Denver, which then went to Phoenix Arizona, and then it sat in the main terminal in El Paso for 3 more days before it was sent out for delivery....

If this was a suitcase it would have been plastered with stamps of all the locations it went before arriving at the final destination....

I agree the USPS does some crazy things. If I want to send a letter to my neighbor, it goes to Shreveport, LA first...across state lines, then back to the PO I mailed it at, then next door.

But it is still cheaper than UPS of FedEx.

GSP is a POS

Here is why:
1) We don't pay any customs for small shipments under $750($1000 NZ/500 GBP) US dollars-all of my shipments are way under that amount. If your items are over that amount good luck!
2) Standard USPS is 5-10 working days , I get mine approx within 8 days-GSP add another week!
3)The cost add and extra 100%-150% more.

I emailed Ebay in 17/10/2010 explaining my concern regarding GSP:

"I have a problem understanding Global Shipping Program and the point is under $750 us dollars we don't get charged customs duties in NZ also the programme adds an extra several days for delivery.

As an example an item shipped Item # 201438351894 shipped on 6 October has not been delivered and item # 391284082902 shipped on the 11th of October I received today.

Not only that but I pay an extra any where from $9 US to 24 US dollars for shipping which defeats the purpose of GSP.

How can I get around GSP if a seller selects it?
"

Here is the full unadulterated reply:

"Good day and thanks for emailing eBay about how you can get around GSP if the seller has opted into it. Iím Shiena, your site specialist and Iím more than glad to help!
If you really interested in the order Philip but the seller opted it to the Global Shipping Program then you need to contact the seller directly and ask if they can send you a PayPal invoice and ship the item directly to you without drop shipping it to the GSP Hub.
This is fine but take note that since payment is directly in PayPal, PayPal Buyer Protection will cover your disputes.
"

I have asked sellers regarding this but  either they say they can't do it or that is the only way!

But here's what really p!@#$ed me off!

"Lastly and in behalf of eBay Incorporated, I would like to thank you for being with us for 15 years and still! The journey was full of ups and down but youíve remained graceful and loyal to us!
I wish you a weekend full of fun, love, and bliss with your family and friends!
Thank you for choosing eBay, we value your business.
Cheer up and be filled with optimism,
Shiena P.

"

I only shop with sellers using USPS tracked small packages $13-16 US.

In the end unless I really want the item I now pass any GSP sellers, which is a bugger and I can see it all going GSP in the future.
