British Gaunt Wings
« on: May 21, 2016, 11:58:51 AM »
Hello

Been looking for a pair of British made Airborne wings for a while

Not sure if I'm allowed to solicit opinions before buying, but I guess someone will tell me if I can't.

There's a Gaunt pair on Topkick that I like, at $250. What do you think???

I've bought a fair bit from James and find him one of the best dealers but would just like opinions please

Thanks

Lee

I don't want to sound like a party-pooper, but British-made wings...both airborne and USAAF...are among the most commonly reproduced / faked because they carry a premium price. Do your homework first and proceed with caution!

I believe that JS posted a thread recently showing three Guantanamo balloon wings....perhaps this may help you determine the authenticity of the wings you are looking at.

Back in the 90s it was possible to buy repro wings by Gaunt at British shows. The wings were of quite good quality and were even sold pinned to a facsimile of the original maker's card...I know because I bought a few at the time! They would fool most people and are still in circulation out there. "Theatre-made" Ludlow, Firmin, Gaunt and Angus & Coote marked wings are a minefield. This American manufacturer sells high quality repros of most of the desirable named wings.
