Submarine qualification badges

Hi,

Just perusing my way through the posts and came across a post 'Canadian Submariner Insignia' and thought to myself........I have one or two of those I could post but couldn't really find the best section to post in so I hope its OK here.

Being in the Submarine Service myself it was not uncommon to occasionally swap Dolphins with Submariners from other Navy's, more often than not it was usually the Americans that would trade the shirts off their backs for a set of British dolphins so have a a few belt buckles and other bits and bobs scattered around the bazaars!

Some were swaps but the majority I bought for my collection which I planned on mounting in a deep picture frame........I have plenty of good ideas like that, however the reality is I stopped collecting them and they now live in a fold pinned on sheets of felt.  A bit of a shame but maybe one day I'll get around to doing it or find a patient and somewhat creative person to do it for me!!  ???

So here we go, I just say what they are if I can remember after all this time!

Royal Navy submarine qualification Dolphins  These were hard earned having to complete the 100ft (30m) SETT (Submarine Escape Training Tower), SMQ (Submarine Qualification course) both dry and wet phases, BSS (Basic Submarine Safety), BSQ (Basic Submarine Qualification) culminating in a technical Fwd and Aft walkround and aural boards.  Once you had completed and passed all of these you were presented your Dolphins in a tumbler of Rum catching them in your teeth as you downed it in one and also awarded your HM SUBMARINES tap tally.

Excellent Collection..

Have never seen many of those badges and never realized that some countries that you show even had submarines...

Very impressive showing of the Silent Service...

Superb collection. I don't know why I overlooked this thread previously, but I did! I've got a couple of WW2 USN sub uniforms myself.

Thanks fellas for the comments.  I have a few more but didn't get around to photographing them, these Dolphins/Badges have been tucked away now for so long in the sideboard.......shame really, should get them all framed!
