WWII USMC Women's Reserve Grouping
« on: March 23, 2015, 11:05:51 AM »
This is a small uniform grouping I acquired about two years ago; came into the thrift shop I used to volunteer at.

Grouping is named to Sgt. Nancy Simons.

Nancy was born in Northumberland, PA on 16th of April, 1922

She enlisted in the Marine Corp on 16th of March, 1943

Last muster she appears in is July 1943.

She passed away a day after her 79th birthday, 17th of April, 2001.

Below is an article announcing her engagement to her soon to be husband, dated July 7th, 1947, from the Pottstown Mercury (Pottstown, PA). In the article, it states Nancy served with the Women's Marine Corps for 29 months.

Photo of Nancy in uniform. I found this after contacting a family member on Ancestry. They have the original but were happy to email me a high res scan.

Sampling of the muster rolls. She served primarily with Aviation Women's Reserve Squadron 13 at the MCAS in Edenton, NC.

Thanks, Smitty!

Definitely a case of being in the right place at the right time. I was shocked someone donated it; I paid the shop a fair price for the items, though.

That summer uniform is a beauty! All of the items appear to be in great shape, and the chevron stitching is a fun addition. Togather this is a fine group of a BAM.
