It just seems wrong to sell family history.

I agree Gary, but this kind of thing is sadly all too common these days. Often, the family sell the medals to raise money to meet the costs of care for the elderly recipient, or other financial demands. Sometimes though, it's just to make a handsome profit, especially with high-value gallantry awards like this.

It's always a shame when the family parts with memories. The hardship of today's financial times has something to do with these decisions.
On the bright side, these treasures are saved for others to enjoy and revere.
