I hope I can document a few things ?
« on: October 13, 2014, 07:34:48 PM »
Here is something I've never posted before.

This was a yard sale find.

I was in the Progress area ( Harrisburg, Pa. ) at an annual neighborhood sale that always produced.

As I came up the driveway to this one house the lady says "I've waited 2 years for you"

" You're the guy who collects military stuff right ?" and "I've saved this for you "

I don't have it anymore but want to document it.

The 139th Patch

The unit flew Nieuports, Spads and Jennies.

It also produced several aces.

Thanks guys.

Here is a small WW1 balloon grouping.

This was found near Beaver Creek and Devonshire Heights road.

We were called in to do an estate buy out.

I found these items dispersed inside the house.

The lady who had called us in said that they were from her husbands side of the family.

My mom died in 1982.

There was a nurse who would come and take care of her a couple of times a week.

Mrs Rudy of Dauphin a very nice lady.

She had seen my collection and gave me this picture of her father in law Major Walter Sheaffer.

Bofore the Americans got involved in WW1 he volunteered and went to France to join the flying unit of the French Foreign Legion.

The unit was known as the Lafayette Flying Corps and if you washed out you became an infantry man in the Foreign Legion.

He made it and became an NCO pilot. Scored 2 victories, got shot down and was a POW until the end of the war.

During WW2 he was a pilot in the ATC.

Back in the early 90's the Progress area was a wonderful place to turn things up.

This was another yardsale find from Mr Clapper.

I think his wife had passed and he was unloading stuff for nothing.

It was so low I felt the need to educate him and pay him more.

He had been in WW2 and his dad was WW1.

The WW2 stuff was all Nazi and I sold it soom after I got it.

But his dads stuff I held on to for many years.

Eugene Clapper Air Service Signal Corps and Pennsylvania Rail Road.
