Double Stamped License Plate for the War Effort
« on: March 23, 2014, 06:30:55 PM »
Here is a unique piece. It is a '42 plate rolled flat and restamped for '43. This is one way states saved steel for the war effort. Often you will see these with only the date restamped, this one is unique in the whole plate was done.

Great home front piece-are these plates pretty scarce?

I have not seen another and sold it a few years ago for $100. I would imagine they are out there, but most people pass them up. It is one of those pieces I hope to find another because I regret selling it.

Very interesting. I see old license plates from time to time but never thought about them being double stamped.
And yours is from my home state!  ;)

I have seen them before on a wall in a barn here but it did not click what they were. I just thought it was starange seeing the double plates. I may now go back to that barn and try and purchase them. Thank you. James
