This is one of many commemorative medals issued by the Soviet Union to it's veterans who served in WW2.

This particular medal commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the Victory over Germany.

Here is a little background information about the image on the front of the medal:

Soviet soldier Nikolai Masalov, who in 1945, found a German girl lost during the Battle of Berlin, near Potsdamer Platz and bought her to safety is seen holding her in one arm and in the other carrying a sword smashing a swastika.

This statue can be seen at the Russian Military Cemetery at Treptower Park in Berlin.

The Soviet Cemetery in Berlin is really something to see. I had the chance to visit while stationed in Berlin..
