MILITARY MATTERS / Spent the day with a USS Indianapolis Survivor
« Last post by ScottG on December 10, 2018, 10:31:12 PM »
Today we hosted Richard Thelen at the museum and at our local High School. I was able to sit down with him and have lunch, and that is where many of the stories started to pour out. He talked about his experience both on the ship and in the water as well as the aftermath and the movies (which he hates).
To say it was a surreal experience would be an understatement, and it will be a day that I remember for a long time. He is the last Michigan survivor and one of only 14 left. At true national treasure. His motto as you might expect "never give up"      Scott

History of the Administrative and Technical Branches

This is volume 3 of Leon Laframboise series of the History of US Army Collar Brass and Collar Insignia. This book is no longer in print and one of the top reference books for history and identification of US Army collar brass or branch of service insignia. Leon was a close friend of mine and when he passed away several years ago, I acquired a few extra copies of this book. Printed in 1986. The other 2 books in his series, History of the Artillery, Cavalry and Infantry Branch of Service Insignia and History of the Combat Support Branches Branch of Service Insignia are Leon's other volumes. These have been steadily rising in price over the years.

I will list one here now and if there is interest I will post additional copies of this volume. I do not have extra copies of the other 2 volumes.

I will be listing several reference books as I get rid of duplicates and extra reference books that I have in my reference library.

EPHEMERA / PHOTOGRAPHS / Re: researching a 398th Bg 601st Bs crew photo
« Last post by littlebuddy on November 30, 2018, 01:10:49 PM »
Hey Carl, If Crewman B in both photos is confirmed, I'd question why Crewman A is taller/just as tall in the top photo, but a few inches shorter in the bottom photo

Eric , i might have member A in the top photo wrong ?  It might be the guy standing next to him on his right ??  i did question myself about that call !  ???

Always appreciate any help !  :)
