The Russki's latest MBT is apparently giving cause for concern in the West?!

This should be a surprise to anyone.  NATO beat their swords into plowshares long ago.  I'm not an armor expert but I have studied armor for a long time.  This new tank looks like it has a lot of shot traps on the lower edge of the turret.

With the Russian economy in the poor shape it is in, how many new weapons can they invest in, and mass produce?

That's partly what screwed 'em during the Cold War. The arms race bled 'em dry!

First, it is one thing to have a tank parading on Red Square, but it's another one having an operational tank fighting in different environments.
Second, there is a reason why NATO never went on the way of full automation of MBT turrets! Very fickle beasts!
Let's wait what will happen!
